Cressida Granger is the owner of Mathmos, the Poole based company best known for their lava lamps. Mathmos was founded in 1963 and is proud to celebrate 50 years of British production this year. During the 1990s, millions of lava lamps were produced in Dorset and sold throughout the world. As an acknowledgment of her work, Cressida won the Queens Award for Export in 1997 and 2000. As well as winning many design awards. Mathmos has won the Red Dot Awards, FX Awards, Design Week, IDEA, and D&AD. The company continues to strive to remain at the forefront of lighting design and is constantly developing new lighting ideas.Cressida is committed to strong British design. The company is known for its innovative approach to lighting, working with strong, young designers, such as Ross Lovegrove and El Ultimo Greto. ‘As well as known designers, we have worked with students developing designs into product’, Cressida says, ‘We keep an eye on graduate shows and occasionally someone exceptional will come through’.
